Infinity is a interesting topic because it is often misapplied. I see people saying stuff like "The Universe is Infinitely old". Which I find fallacious. I could bring out the Hubble Telescope,the Olber's paradox,The laws of thermodynamics and other interesting proofs but today I think I will take another route.
ARGUMENT FOR THE FINITE DURATION OF THE UNIVERSE
Now when we say time it is often equated with the Speed x Distance. Now this could be one definition of time but I prefer the definition of successive movement. Think of a long line of dominoes

Well,we have a line of Dominoes stretching all the way into infinity.If you push the first domino over and it causes a successive toppling there after. How long will it take to get to infinity?
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28........
when will we run out of numbers? Answer is NEVER
WOO! Mark,really? Never? Yep and here is why.

There will never be a transition between "Finite" or "Countable" to "Infinite" which is uncountable. It could be VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY BIG! BUT it will,given enough time,be counted in one manner or another.As long as it is a product of numbers (1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.0) If you knock over one domino all you are adding is another domino to the sum of dominoes fallen. 1+1=2+1=3+1=4 ,keeping going forever. So forever would have to have past for it to become infinite. Now,some of you may feel that "Forever" is a finite duration but it is INFINITE in that it encompasses all time,past,present and future,you will never pass forever just like you will never get to infinity.So in reality anything that moves or changes is temporal finite. Take a ball,bounce it once.Bounce it twice,Bounce it three times,keep on going. When will you reach infinity? If you have been paying attention you will realize that it won't. Infinity is not a "Gigantic Total Sum" but it is more of a abstract concept. It is suppose to symbolize completeness. Now,for something to be complete it can not be added to,you can not add to completeness unless you disregard what completeness even means. Yet we always add one more sunrise,one more sunset,one more orbit of the planets around the Sun,one more orbit of the sun around the galaxy.Everything is in perpetual motion,it is always moving.There is nothing that we know of that stays "still" since concreteness in a dynamic universe relies on a objective standpoint which would have to be outside our universe,everything is stationary to itself one my say. I feel that to say that the universe has a perpetual duration is like saying a very bright darkness,a lively corpse,these are contradictory expression which should not be used except for entertainment,never used seriously. I believe the universe has a beginning,when and where or even how I do not know.I have an Idea but I can not say any more without it being a matter of discussion.
Man, I had a veggie patty today! It was on Italian Herbs and Cheese, had onions, green peppers, american cheese, spinach, tomato, light mayo (I know, you hate mayo), oil and vinegar! It was good :3

ReplyDelete@Jesse,first part minus the mayo,sounds DE-LICIOUS.Second post, Negative numbers are a mathematic invention. Although the use of Infinity and -Infinity help prove my point.It is silly to apply it,since Negative numbers are quite illusional.
